Mary Berry’s ‘magic’ honey garlic chicken perfect for BBQ

Summer is now here which means many people are cleaning off their barbecues for a party – and there is one delicious meal that is guaranteed to impress loved ones.

Mary Berry’s sticky honey and garlic chicken is not only easy to cook but packed full of flavour, making it the perfect dish to enjoy while out in the sun.

It is also a great dinner recipe if you are not having a barbecue as all you need is seven simple ingredients to make this dish that you likely already have in your kitchen cupboard.

On her website, Mary said: “An old favourite of mine and one the family still love. Tender chicken that comes off the bone easily with a barbecue-style charred appearance and flavour.

“So easy – just put it in the oven and leave it to do its magic. If you would like smaller portions, use the same amount of thighs and drumsticks (six of each).”

Method

To begin, use a sharp knife to cut the chicken and make shallow slits in the skin, and place the chicken in a shallow dish.

Add all the sauces and crushed garlic for the marinade in a big bowl, then stir until fully combined.

Pour over the chicken legs and toss to coat, then cover the tray with plastic wrap and place in the fridge for at least 30 minutes to marinate.

Once the chicken is ready to cook, either place them on a barbecue or preheat the oven to 220C (200C for a fan or Gas Mark 7).

If cooking in the oven, roast for 35 to 40 minutes until the chicken is sticky, golden and fully cooked through.

Place the cooking juices in a jug and pour over the chicken legs when you are about to serve.

Serve straight out of the oven or off the barbecue. Mary Berry suggests serving this mouthwatering chicken with mashed potatoes and your favourite green vegetables.
