Shubman Gill: The trade window of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 has thrown some great punches and has kept many on the fans. All the franchises have named their list of released and retained players and the auction will now take place on 19th December.  Some massive changes have happened and it’s fair to say that the next edition of the league will be breathtaking.

One of the major developments ahead of the IPL 2024 is Gujarat Titans has named a new skipper for the upcoming edition of the tournament. Young Shubman Gill, who is currently the No.1 ranked T20I batter has been appointed as a captain of the team for the forthcoming seasons. 

This comes after Hardik Pandya was traded to Mumbai Indians. Gujarat Titans had a lot of options in Kane Williamson, Rashid Khan and others. However, they opted to give responsibility to young hands, who have been their best batter in since the last two years.

Shubman Gill was one of the draft picks Gujarat Titans when they made their debut in the league. The batter scored 483 runs in 16 matches with 4 fifties in IPL 2022 when GT won the title. He backed it up with another terrific season as he was the leading run-getter in IPL 2023.

Shubman Gill scored 890 runs with 4 fifties and 3 hundreds in IPL 2023 and broke quite a few records. He will be having an added responsibility in the IPL 2024 as apart from his batting, he needs to showcase his leadership skills as well. GT would be hoping that Batter leds from the front and take them to glory. 

Talking about on being appointed as a leader, Shubman Gill said thanked the management for showing trust in him and said that he’s looking forward to the opportunity. He stated: 

“I am delighted and proud to assume the captaincy of Gujarat Titans and thank the franchise for trusting me to lead such a fine team. We have had two exceptional seasons and I keenly look forward to leading the team with our exciting brand of cricket.”

Shubman Gill and Hardik Pandya would be hoping to continue the dream run in the tournament. Gujarat Titans have reached the final in both the editions they have played, winning one and ending as runners-up in second.
