How to keep bananas fresh for longer with food storage hack

How you store your bananas affects whether they stay fresh and firm for weeks or days.

If you love banana bread having a few brown bananas lying around isn’t a bad problem to have

But brown and mushy is not the goal if you want to eat a banana alone as part of a healthy breakfast.

If you’ve noticed that your bananas are browning a little too quickly, it’s a sign that you need to change the way you store them.

Just like there are ways to ripen bananas faster, there are ways to slow down the ripening process of this fruit, too.

Taking to her TikTok page @victorias.way, Victoria shared a tip on how to extend the freshness of your bananas.

She noted that bananas will need to be kept in the fridge and foil will be needed.

Victoria captioned the video: “Life hack on how to store bananas for two weeks so they don’t spoil in two days.”

She started by wrapping the stems of a bunch of fully ripe bananas in tin foil.

The idea behind this method is that ethylene gas, which causes ripening, is released from banana stems, so containing that gas should slow ripening.

While some people opt to use cling film for this step, foil should give you better results.

Victoria then placed the bananas in the drawer compartment of the fridge as the cold temperature prevented them from ripening.

The only rule that you need to know when it comes to storing bananas in the fridge is not to put them in there before they are fully ripe or else they will be tasteless.

After several days of keeping bananas in the fridge, their skins will start to turn brown but the fruit inside will be perfectly fine.
